7/15/2026The two-year program's curriculum is divided into four semesters. In each semester, students acquire 30 ECTS credits, which corresponds to a workload of about 900 hours. The curriculum and the module manual can be found here. In terms of content, the study program is divided into three areas: The subjects in these three areas are taught within larger modules, each of which is worth 6 ECTS credits; as a result, students can concentrate on five modules in each semester. This enables students to acquire in-depth knowledge of the material, and teachers to use modern teaching and learning methods such as problem-based learning (PBL). Moreover, the examination load is significantly reduced. Other subject combinations are also possible, as long as the courses taken do not overlap. Students receive a sound theoretical education in the IWI program. Furthermore, a study stay at a renowned foreign partner university of the TUHH is possible, which additionally promotes international competence. At the same time, incoming students from partner universities visit the TUHH and contribute to emphasizing the international character of the Industrial Engineering and Management studies on campus at the TUHH. With its innovative teaching methods including case studies, business games, and problem-based learning, which are otherwise mainly found in MBA courses, the IWI Master of Science also supports the development of soft skills such as teamwork. Moreover, the practical relevance that many companies desire also forms part of the IWI Master of Science's study program. Compulsory modules in the core area of business studies/management (42 ECTS credits) and one elective module (6 ECTS); Elective modules for individual in-depth study in the field of business studies/management (24 ECTS credits); and Elective modules within the framework of engineering specialization (12 ECTS credits) to expand the specialist knowledge acquired in the bachelor's program. Project seminar (6 ECTS credits): The seminar requires the independent development of a topic or a concrete problem solution and thus deepens the practical orientation of the IWI master's program; Supplementary courses (6 ECTS credits): These courses cover topics ranging from European cultural history and philosophy to the interfaces between the humanities and natural sciences, thus broadening the students' horizons beyond the core subjects; and Master's thesis (30 ECTS credits): Students have six months to work independently on an industrial engineering topic, which will usually be closely related to the research work of the supervising researcher.

The IWI curriculum is aimed at bachelor's graduates in engineering and, in exceptional cases, in the natural sciences who wish to qualify for challenging cross-sectional tasks in leading positions in industry, think in an interdisciplinary manner, are open to new ideas, and strive for an international profile. Already graduated engineers can certainly also be admitted to the course. If you want to work at the interface of business administration and technology and if you want to qualify yourself with a sound economic education specifically for future management tasks in industry and business, you are a prospective student and should apply to TUHH. Please note, however, that the study of International Industrial Management and Engineering places high demands on students' flexibility and commitment due to the breadth of the subject matter. Students are therefore required to be extremely committed in order to successfully complete the course.
