7/15/2026The education of architects requires a broad-based basic qualification, from technical knowledge to aesthetic judgement. During your studies at TU Braunschweig, you will become familiar with architecture as a multifaceted and living system of all those moments and factors that give rise to the multi-layered whole of a building or a city. A broad spectrum of teaching content and fields of work awaits you: History of architecture, building and urban development Media representation and artistic design Industrial building and constructive design Construction and technology Building theory and design Building design Urban planning and landscape architecture A wide-ranging basic education The Bachelor's degree is the first degree and provides an overview of the professional field. The course also enables students to take up a Master's degree or complementary further education. The Bachelor's degree programme aims to provide a wide-ranging basic education. The basis is a holistic education, which is divided into five areas of competence: Cultural and historical knowledge Representation and design Constructing and building Design and planning: city and landscape Design and planning: buildings Working in digital and model-making workshops and using the latest media are a matter of course. Structure of the study programme As soon as you start your Bachelor's degree, you will become acquainted with the entire breadth of architecture. In the first year of study, we teach you the methodological and technical basics in subjects such as Building history Media and artistic representation Building physics Structural engineering Building construction Building materials science Introduction to design In the second year of study, the curriculum includes important methods, in-depth impressions of the entire spectrum of architecture and larger design projects. The canon of subjects ranges from the history and theory of architecture, the construction subjects, such as building technology, structural engineering and building construction, subjects in urban planning and landscape architecture to design projects in urban planning and building design. In the third year of study, you expand the knowledge you have acquired and choose content and topics according to your own interests. In addition, you train your design skills in drafts and projects, such as the constructive project, the compact design the bar designs and the three-month Bachelor's draft. Furthermore, you will acquire key qualifications such as foreign languages, presentation techniques or project work.

General Requirement: Most of the courses offered at TU Braunschweig are taught in German. Therefore, when applying for a German-language degree programme, you must submit one of the following German language certificates by the application deadline: TestDaF with at least 4 points in each section of the test telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule DSH 2 Sprachdiplom of the Kultusministerkonferenz (Stufe II) C2-Zertifikat of the Goethe Institute Feststellungsprüfung of the Studienkolleg For non-restricted degree programmes, you only need to prove that you are attending at least a German course at level B2 at the time of application. For enrolment, you must submit one of the above-mentioned German language certificates. Unfortunately, enrolment is not possible without this language certificate!
